Ruth Walker Polan, better known as “Ruthie” to her family and friends, was born in Nixon, Texas to Tom Hardee Walker and Hertha Upton Walker on April 8, 1928, and died in Austin, Texas on January 13, 2013. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Upton, Joe D., and Lloyd Gordon Walker and one sister, Edna Walker Tiemann. Ruthie is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Glenn Kraege Polan, Sr.; her sister, Beth Walker; a brother in law, Ray Tiemann; two sons, Glenn Kraege Polan, Jr. and wife, Deborah, and Ted David Polan and wife, Robbie; five Polan grandsons, Thomas, and his wife, Amanda, Parker, and his wife, Mary, Walker, William, and Chance; and numerous nephews and nieces. Ruth also leaves behind a host of dear friends who have become family over the years, including her two godchildren and 'adopted' grand-triplets and their families. Ruthie held a Bachelor of Science Degree from Sam Houston State University and a Master of Arts Degree from Texas Southern University, both in the field
