Facebook post brings child assault charges

TROY - An October Facebook post has led to the arrest of two people in connection to bruises to an infant. According to Troy Police Chief Brad Parsons that, on Oct. 29, his department received and anonymous call about a Facebook post showing a 1-year old child with significant bruising to the face, head, arms and legs. The post alleged Austin Stone of Jerseyville as a suspect in the incident. Troy Police investigated the report, Parsons said, and arrested Stone and Rebecca Jones-Scales of Troy. Detectives presented the facts of the case to the Madison County State's Attorney's Office. Stone and Jones-Scales were each charged with one count of Class X aggravated battery and two counts of Class 3 aggravated battery. Jones-Scales was also charged with the misdemeanor of child endangerment. Bond was set at $750,000 for each defendant who, on Wednesday, were in the Madison County Jail. Parsons said the child is currently safe and has been relocated.
