Facebook is extending its 3D Photos feature to more phones. It previously only worked with high-end smartphones with dual-lens cameras such as the iPhone 11. Now Facebook is extending the tech to older phones with a single-lens camera and on photos taken years ago. Facebook said this has been made possible by teaching its AI systems to infer 3D structures from 2D photos within a fraction of a second, in order to produce 3D photos from virtually any standard 2D picture. 3D Photos originally launched on Facebook in 2018 for smartphones with dual-lens cameras.
